The Martyred 21 – Counting the Cost

The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir sings a song that says,

Take up your cross and follow Jesus
Take up your cross every day
Don’t be ashamed to say that you know Him
Count the cost, take up your cross and follow Him

Twenty one Coptic Christians gave their lives for that Cross this weekend. Who are the Coptic Christians?

Coptic just means Egyptian. Christians that live in Egypt call themselves Coptic Christians. Going back to the Apostolic Period, they come from the city of Alexandria. They call John Mark (who wrote the Gospel of Mark) their founder, and first martyr. He arrived in Alexandria A.D. 42.

Copts in Egypt make up the largest Christian community in the Middle East. The term comes from the Greek description of the Egyptian population in Roman Egypt. After the Muslims conquered Egypt, it then just applied to those Egyptians following the Christian faith.

Persecuted for centuries, they are no strangers to martyrdom.

Regardless of what the President of the United States prefers to call them, they weren’t beheaded because they were Egyptian citizens or Innocents. They were killed because they were Christians. The Islamic terrorists are members of the self-named Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. This is simple, elementary education.

Islamic militants are murdering Christians because of their faith.

The Bible speaks of these things coming to pass again. Of course there was persecution during the period of the Apostles and the beginning of The Church and the Bible tells us that it will increase as the second coming of our Lord draws near.

“…This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”  2 Timothy 3:1-5.

“Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.” 2 Peter 3:3-4.

That is the problem with so many Christians around the world. It’s not just specific to America. We are being lulled to sleep. We continue on as we have always done, eating, drinking, etc., as the Bible points out, and if we are not careful, that day will come upon us unaware.

“Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:1-9.

We are not children of darkness! We are sons and daughters of the light! Paul urges us here to not sleep but to be alert and self-controlled. How do we do that? Put on love and faith as a breastplate, protecting our heart and the hope of salvation as a helmet, protecting our minds!

It will be very easy, in this evil day, to be so filled with anxiety and the cares of this life that we become distracted from our purpose and distracted from our Source of Life itself. This is so dangerous. We must be connected to HIM, to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, if we are to stand in this wicked hour.

“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, (overindulgence) drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:34-36 NIV.

Close unexpectedly on us like a trap. That is explicit and precise, friends. The Word of God says it will come upon all who live on the face of the earth…this means us! Whether it is ISIS at our doorstep or persecution in another form, we will face difficulty unless the Lord comes for His Bride beforehand.

‘To escape all that is about to happen’ doesn’t necessarily mean we will be exempt from suffering. I believe it means if we KNOW Him, if we are filled with His Spirit, no matter what comes our way we will escape by being rewarded with eternal life and be able to stand before Him in glory. The thief on the cross was not relieved of his immediate suffering but the Lord did tell him, “…Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” Luke 23:43 ESV.

Whether we die the death of a martyr, or are caught away with Him in the air, we will escape!

We win regardless, we will then be able to stand before the Son of Man; not with fear or dread, but with hope and joy to hear Him say, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

martyred 21 and counting the cost

So have you counted the cost? Are you awakened out of sleep? Do you realize it is high time that we commit to the work of the Lord? No matter what it is He has called us to do, He has commanded us all to share this Gospel of Truth and Hope. Paul warns us that “…now it is high time to awake out of sleep ; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.” Romans:13:11.

Jesus Christ is alive, He is risen and He is coming again. While we are here on this earth, He has sent the Comforter, Christ IN us, our Hope of Glory that will keep us, strengthen us and perfect us for every good work.

Be encouraged today of the Hope that lies within you but do not forget your Christian brothers and sisters around the world that are facing imminent danger and extinction at the hands of their persecutors. The enemy is no respecter of persons, friend. Faces and names mean nothing and they will stop at nothing until Jesus comes again. (Just since this was posted early this morning (2/17/15) there has been another report of ISIS burning to death 45 people in al-Baghdadi. These are atrocities that we are aware of.)

But I believe in an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in these last days! We share with churches every week, teaching them how to be able to accommodate the revival that God wants to give us.

May we all count the cost now and unite together to see as many as possible are ready to meet Him and, if that day comes, to lay down their lives for His Name.

“For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.” Matthew 24:21-22:21.

Order My Steps…

31 days of HopeDay 23 of the #31dbc!

“Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep thy precepts.

Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes.” Psalms 119:133-135.

When I go out to eat with The Sweetheart, we will walk into a restaurant and say, “Table for two, please.” Then inevitably, one of us will head to the restroom to wash our hands. That leaves the other one at the table, alone, when the server comes to ask what we would like to drink.

I trust him to order for me when it comes to a Dr. Pepper or a Strawberry Lemonade.

But if I am not back when she comes asking about the main course….hold on Big Boy!

I don’t want him to order what I am going to eat. I might not feel like spaghetti that night. I might have preferred a steak and baked potato!

“Order my steps in your word…” Guide me, direct me, and put me on the right path.

Lord, you can go ahead and order for me!

You can order whatever you think is best for my life. I will take it and accept it and run with it God as your will for my life.

Do we trust Him enough to truly let Him have full control? To really let Him ORDER our steps? To say, “Okay, Lord, it’s in Your hands, do with it as you wish. I am just the clay, You are the Potter.” Then step back and let Him do the work. Wow.

Just imagine if we actually LIVED that way!

But to do that, a change will have to take place.

He isn’t going to order and guide our footsteps if we refuse to move our feet! WE have to be willing to get up off of our seat of do-nothing-and-do-little!

Guide your footsteps hopeinthehealing

If you ask Him to order your steps, to truly place the “menu” of your life in His hands and let Him decide what is best for you, then you had better be prepared to MOVE!

“Guide my path, Lord…but I will just sit right here and hope everything turns out alright. Let me know when You’re done.”

It doesn’t work that way. You have to be a vital part of the equation. He wants you to be involved in the process. You have to be out in the trenches! He does the choosing, but you are the recipient, so once He hands those items off the menu to you, then you must get up on your feet and run with it!

What has He given you? What has He chosen for you? Every one of us has a mission, every one of us has a chosen path, and our steps have been “ordered” by God. But we have to get up off of our FEET.

He doesn’t want us to just sit there when the order comes through.

You have to be ready to move your feet!
As we enter this season of thankfulness, I thought it would be good to hear from you, from your corner of the globe and right here close by too. Some of you I hear from regularly, some read but have never commented. What I would love to know is three things:
  1. Something God has done for you in 2013, what you are most thankful for.
  2. What you want to see accomplished in your spiritual walk in 2014.
  3. How you and your family will be celebrating the Thanksgiving Holiday if at all.

Mention what state or country you are from. You can email me your response to ynannette@gmail.com . I would like to use the information in my Thanksgiving post and show what God has been doing around the world! I will only use first names so you don’t have to worry about confidentiality. But if you do not even want me to use your name at all, please say so in your post and I will respect your wishes.

This will be a great blessing! I hope you will take a couple of minutes and answer the questions for me. I love and appreciate every one of you. These last eight months have been some of the most rewarding of my life and I thank you for being a part of the journey.

Still I Will Trust You

1236524_10201279022071340_513847842_nDay 15 of the #31dbc! Today I am glad to have my sister-in-law, Sue Elkins, guest posting for me!  Sue is a mother, a long time Broker/Associate with Re/Max Realty Professionals, and has recently “retired” from being a pastor’s wife for many years. But that has not slowed her down in ministry. She and her husband, Dexter, are still very active in their church teaching, ministering and being helpers as the Bible calls us to be. Her newest and most beloved profession in this life is that of grandmother to Roarke David. I know this will be a blessing to you!

Still I will trust you
Still I will follow
Still I will answer, to your every calling
When the storm rages on and I can’t find my way
Still I will trust you Lord

I love a song that seems as if I am talking directly to the Master!

It talks to my heart every time I sing it. It renews my commitment to the Lord that regardless of what comes my way; the Lord and I are STILL going to have a relationship that is unbreakable.

The bond between you and the Lord should be the strongest bond in your life.

Still I Will Trust 2

Nothing can separate me from you, Lord, except myself!  If you have a made-up mind there is nothing that can overcome you.  Trials may slow you down, but not stop you.   If you don’t have a made-up mind, then trouble is going to be around every corner because the adversary is going to know that your bond and commitment to the Lord has a weak link….you!

STILL I WILL TRUST YOU…

I have watched people go in and out of serving the Lord, never building, or understanding how to build that relationship with Jesus.  They struggle every day with just the simplest things and when something BIG happens, they are just not able to overcome.

Serving the Lord is not about following rules or even the fear of hell, it has to be because you have a love for your Lord that is all-consuming!  The old song, “I Love Him Too Much To Fail Him Now” comes to mind. Do you feel that way about the Lord?  Does your heart hurt at the very thought that you could bring more pain to Jesus by giving up?

I have been married for 41 years to the love of my life.  Have there been trials and days when I didn’t like him very much? Sure.  But not one time have I ever thought, “Okay, I’m done, I’m out of here.” That simply is not an option for me.  I made a commitment to my husband to love and cherish till death do us part.  We have four children that we created out of love and I am committed to always having a place with both Mother and Father that they can call “home”.

If I am feeling unhappy, I don’t have to look any further than the mirror to know where to start fixing the problem.   It is not an option!

Forty two years ago I made a commitment to change my life and told the Lord I would love Him forever, and it is with that same commitment, and His help, that I am going to complete this journey.  It has never been an option to quit.

Have I had sad or discouraging days? Of course.

Have I been disappointed in myself and others? Sure I have.

But quit on JESUS? NEVER!

No one has ever given me the peace, contentment, happiness, joy and blessing that comes from walking with Jesus and NO ONE has ever given their life so that I could have life abundantly and eternally!

STILL I WILL FOLLOW….

In our world today there is such a relaxed attitude that commitment isn’t really all that important.  You don’t have to be committed to your marriage. If it doesn’t work out, just move on.

You don’t have to be committed to friends….you can get new ones.

You don’t have to be committed to your job….if you don’t like it you can find another one.

You don’t have to be committed to principles and morals…they may just not be for you.

You don’t have to be committed to this religion thing…if it doesn’t work out, try another.

Acts 4:12. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

We have a society that does not seem to be committed to anything except its own selfish desires!

Whether you have been walking with the Lord, one day or 10,000, if you desire your life to be one of peace and harmony, I cannot express to you the importance of committing to your relationship with Jesus Christ.  Really committing to know more about Him.  Really committing to read His Word and discovering His ways.  Totally, and without hesitation, committing yourself to whatever comes your way, you will not stop walking with Him.  Committing yourself to Him so that whatever He asks of you, you are willing to do it.

STILL I WILL ANSWER TO YOUR EVERY CALLING…..

Will life always be easy?  No, but it will be a lot easier now with a made-up mind and Jesus by your side.  Will your life be free of problems?  No, but there is a peace in the midst of the storm, there is good in an imperfect world, and there will be comfort during sadness for you.

Jesus is a friend like no other.  The Creator of the Universe…your Creator…Jesus, is on your side.  You will not believe what the two of you can accomplish!

He is waiting on you.  He has already made the commitment to you….He gave His life for you.   Jesus is going to wait on you to show your commitment to Him.  Don’t make Him wait any longer!

WHEN THE STORM RAGES ON AND I CAN’T FIND MY WAY…..STILL I WILL TRUST YOU LORD!

Enjoy listening to this beautiful song, “Still I Will Follow”, sung by the writer, Vonnie Ewing Lopez, performing with The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
