The Daniel Fast: Angels were loosed!

I have a great Daniel Fast recipe for you today! If you have missed any of our 31 Days of Fasting in January, you can catch up here!

“In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” Daniel 10:2-3.

In Daniel 10, he was fasting for 21 days and during that time angels were loosed to fight on his behalf. They literally had to fight devils in order to get a word from God to Daniel. His prayer and fasting were shaking things up.

Prayers were answered; chains were broken.

“Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.” Daniel 10:12-13.

From the first day Daniel prayed and started fasting his prayers were heard and the angel was on his way. But his prayers were not answered immediately because the angel had battles to fight and even called for Michael, the archangel, to help him! The angel tells him he was detained for 21 days, the entirety of Daniel’s fast.

Fasting and prayer together literally shake the spirit world and cause angels to be loosed on your behalf. Think about it:

[Tweet “God will move the heavens and the earth all because you prayed!”]

So, what are you fasting, praying and believing God to do for you? Get that Bible out and begin to read scripture OUT LOUD when you pray.

Take authority in the Spirit and watch what will happen while you are fasting. You may face opposition but keep pressing in and pressing on.

The battle is the Lord’s. You are just clay in the Potter’s hands. He will take care of His own!

Here’s a great easy recipe for those participating in the Daniel Fast, taken straight from The Daniel Fast Devotional!  What? You haven’t got yours? It’s available in eBook and paperback on Amazon. Click on the link here!

Tortilla Soup

    • ½ cup chopped celery
    • 1 medium onion, chopped
    • 1 medium zucchini, chopped
    • 1 medium yellow squash, chopped
    • 2 cups frozen corn
    • 2 tomatoes, chopped
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 8 cups vegetable broth
    • 4 cups water
    • 1 can of black or kidney bean
    • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
    • Sea salt
    • Juice of one lime
    • 6-8 CORN tortillas
    • Olive Oil

Heat enough oil to sauté the first four ingredients.  Add everything else except the tortillas.  Simmer for at least 30 minutes or can add to crockpot and cook on low four hours.  Brush tortillas with olive oil and cut into strips. Bake in oven for about 15 minutes on 350 degrees. Top with tortilla strips, green onion and even avocado to serve. Enjoy!

The Daniel Fast: Fasting with Knowledge = Power!

Fasting Together in JanuaryBlogging every day in January for those who are fasting! Join us and catch up on previous posts here! I have a wonderful Daniel Fast approved recipe for you today! Some have already began the fast, others are starting later in the month. Some may be doing a different type of fast. Whatever you are doing, do it unto the Lord.

The more we know about fasting, the more we delve into the Word, the closer we will draw to Jesus Christ.

You will experience rewards from fasting! You will see chains broken, lives changed and prayers answered.

Most of all, in the days leading up to the fast, no matter when you start, (and it doesn’t matter when you start!), prepare your heart! Ask the Lord to show you things that need to be brought out into the open and dealt with, or done away with altogether. He will do just that because He loves you so much.

Your flesh is going to rebel during the fast, especially at the beginning. It is going to be a fight to stay away from the things that you normally put into your system every day. That is why it is so important to PRAY and FAST together! Keep focused on why you are doing what you are doing.

Fasting with Knowledge = power

Always remember that God will honor your sacrifice. “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13 KJV.

Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Pecans, Apples, and Dried Cranberries

4 individual sized sweet potatoes or yams

1/4 cup coconut milk

1/3 cup roasted pecans

1/3 cup dried cranberries

1 large crisp apple (I love Honeycrisp), cored and diced

Cinnamon, as garnish

Preheat oven to 400.  Scrub the sweet potatoes until the skins are clean then dry them with a kitchen towel.  Pierce sweet potatoes all over using a fork or paring knife. Place each potato into a square of aluminum foil with a drizzle of grapeseed oil and sprinkle of salt.  Wrap tightly.  Roast potatoes until tender, 45-55 minutes.  Remove and allow to cool for at least 15 minutes.

Remove potatoes from foil and cut a large slit from end to end.  If they are still too hot wait for them to cool slightly so you can handle them.  Use a spoon to carefully scrape out the flesh of the potatoes.  Leave enough of a border that the skins will not completely fall apart, 1/2″ or so.  Use a fork to mash the potatoes together with the coconut milk.  Add salt, pepper, and grated fresh nutmeg to taste.  Fresh orange zest would be good, too.

Evenly scoop the filling back into the potato shells.  At this point they can be stored for 24 hours.  Bring to room temperature then reheat in 350 oven until warm.  Top each potato with the pecans, dried cranberries, apples, and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

It’s never too late to purchase The Daniel Fast Devotional! It is such a help to you during ANY FAST. Twenty one devotions and three days of preparation devotions, you will be encouraged and learn about nearly every fast that took place in the Bible. The good and the bad! Yes, there were those whose fasting was NOT unto the Lord. You can click on any of these links and order from Amazon on the Kindle or paperback.

O God, thy sea is so great, my boat is so small!

Happy New Year! Beginning today with last year’s most clicked post. I am just a little drop of water in a magnificent ocean, I am so small. But He is so great!! Be blessed with this beautiful story.

An Old Breton prayer was inscribed on a block of wood on the desk of President John F. Kennedy. Admiral Hyman Rickover would give it to new submarine captains and also presented one to the President. Kennedy loved the quote and used it in his dedication of the East Coast Memorial to the Missing at Sea, May 23, 1963. He always kept in on his desk in the Oval Office and it is now in the JFK Presidential Museum and Library.

Here is the poem in its entirety:

Thy sea, O God, so great,
My boat so small.
It cannot be that any happy fate
Will me befall
Save as Thy goodness opens paths for me
Through the consuming vastness of the sea.

Thy winds, O God, so strong,
So slight my sail.
How could I curb and bit them on the long
And saltry trail,
Unless Thy love were mightier than the wrath
Of all the tempests that beset my path?

Thy world, O God, so fierce,
And I so frail.
Yet, though its arrows threaten oft to pierce
My fragile mail,
Cities of refuge rise where dangers cease,
Sweet silences abound, and all is peace.
~Winfred Ernest Garrison

So much goodness in these words! What a Mighty God! I am frail, I am small, I am even weak. Sometimes LIFE overwhelms me and “unless thy love were mightier than the wrath of all the tempests that beset my path”, I could never make it through those storms.

[Tweet “O God, thy sea is so great and my boat is so small.”]

I love the ending, “Cities of refuge rise where dangers cease, sweet silences abound, and all is peace.”

In the Old Testament there were Cities of Refuge. When the Promised Land was divided up among the twelve tribes of Israel, only one tribe did not receive land: the Levites. They were given the care and upkeep of the Tabernacle and to be the priests of the Lord.  Part of their inheritance consisted of 48 cities that were spread throughout the land and six of those were Cities of Refuge.

If someone committed a murder, for example, under the Mosaic Law, they were to be put to death. Exodus 21:14. But if it was an unintentional or accidental death, he could flee to a City of Refuge and be “safe” from his avenger until a “trial” was held to determine his guilt or innocence. As long as he stayed in the City of Refuge, no one could touch him. If he left the city for any reason, and there were people seeking his life, he was no longer under that protection.

O-God-thy-sea-is-so-great-1024x768

Aren’t you thankful for a place of refuge in Jesus Christ! We can run to Him in our distress and be protected, even forgiven, from the accuser of the brethren, Satan himself. No matter what he wants to charge us with, Jesus has already paid the price and we can find comfort and safety in His everlasting arms.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.” Psalms 46:1-3.

Yes, the sea of life is so big, sometimes scary and even overwhelming. But our God is so GREAT and able to carry us through anything if we take refuge in Him.

Rest in that hope today!
