Bossy…the other “B” word?

Unless you have no access to social media of some kind, you have probably heard about the “campaign” to BAN the word “Bossy” from our vocabulary.

I kid you not. It is big and growing.

Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer for Facebook, has help from an onslaught of celebrities to ban this offensive word.

Why?

They claim it is because it discourages young girls from growing into leadership roles.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Sandberg calls it “…the other ‘B’ word”.

Yet statistics show that girls outperform boys academically.

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, CNN foreign correspondent Christiane Amanpour, and Girls Scouts USA CFO Anna Maria Chavez are just some of the supporters in this campaign.

Excuse me, I forget one leading role model for girls that is backing this effort: Beyoncé.

Here is a quote from their website, banbossy.com that states their agenda:

“When a little boy asserts himself, he’s called a ‘leader’. Yet when a little girl does the same, she risks being branded ‘bossy’. Words like bossy send a message: don’t raise your hand or speak up. By middle school, girls are less interested in leading than boys—a trend that continues into adulthood. Together we can encourage girls to lead.”

Then directly below the statement is a button to push, I will #banbossy.

Bossy

I find this entire movement ridiculous, if not laughable. Especially coming from women that supposedly push for equal rights and freedom for all; now they are championing censorship? These same women got to where they are in life by being aggressive, most of them were bossy, take-charge kind of gals who worked hard and pushed their way to the top. Why do they want to limit others who want to do the same?

Would it not be better to have a campaign, to encourage young girls to be leaders instead of teaching them to be combative, argumentative and word-banning enthusiasts?

I might not be the bossy type, but I know a lot of so-called bossy women. I can guarantee you that being called bossy is not going to keep them from being bossy!

Sheryl Sandberg, who must have way too much time on her hands, is putting into the minds of young girls that they are “lesser” and not being treated equally in society.

You cannot ban personalities.

She, and those joining her in this crusade, could spend their time on more educational outlets and more worthwhile causes such as abortion. Think of the millions of leaders that have been aborted over the last several decades! What differences could they have made in this world?

Teach our girls, and boys, to be strong leaders, to believe in country, in humanity and to get all of the education they can to make America a better place.

[Tweet “Doesn’t a program to alleviate the word “bossy” actually create Bossy girls in the process?”]

How bossy can you be by starting a national movement insisting on banning a word from the English language?

What is next? Banning books that have the word “bossy” in them? Forbidding us to use the word in speech? Sound crazy? Yes, but this irrational feminist agenda is encroaching more and more on our rights and way of life.

Most young girls, and women, do not go to bed at night in tears because someone called them “bossy”.

Of course there are “bullies” in all walks of life, on the playground and in the boardroom alike. We can raise our children, and teach our young people in our homes, churches, and hopefully schools, and make them strong leaders that stand up for what is right. But being bossy and being a bully are two different things.

Bossy, or demanding and overbearing people, men and women, are not apt to change. Some of them make great leaders, some are just plain annoying, but they aren’t to be done away with or made to become outcasts in society.

Beyoncé does not hesitate to use the other “B”word, in a derogatory manner, throughout her music videos. Why is that not offensive and degrading to young girls and women alike?

She reached the lowest of the low with her display of “raunchy” at this year’s Grammy Awards. Many celebrities, whether conservative or liberal, Republican or Democrat, feminist or not, were shocked and even embarrassed by her public display; which was definitely not suited for prime-time. Or any time.

I am much more offended by that “B” word than the one they are getting all upset over, and spending millions in advertising to do away with.

Back in January, Beyoncé posted a picture of herself on Instagram sitting in front of a mural of The Last Supper. She is placed front and center, covering up Jesus.

It is no secret she considers herself The Boss, and says so in promotional video for #BanBossy!! “I’m not bossy, I’m the Boss”, struts the pop “queen”.

She is right about that, she is bossy. The lyrics to her song, “Bow Down”, are totally outrageous, and if anything imposes degradation on young girls, that song would be the lead effort.

Is this a role model for young girls?

When celebrities such as Oprah, bow at her feet, giving her the title, “Preeminent Mistress of the Universe”, and mean it, we are truly a sorry country indeed.

Oprah, in her interview with Beyoncé, touting the release of her “Life is But a Dream” debut on HBO, suggests that Beyoncé’s presence is the cause behind the lights going out at the SuperBowl. She says,
“It was the moment art met God.” I protest, Oprah. Not the God I serve!

Millions idolize Oprah, who herself idolizes Beyoncé.

Give us some real role models, Sheryl Sandberg. Spend that money on some worthwhile efforts that will actually teach our young people leadership skills, not more hate.

Take on some meaningful causes that will actually benefit our young people and not mess up their minds by flaunting highly overrated, and grossly inappropriate performers, such as Beyoncé.

This country used to be founded upon high principles and morals…we know that we are living in an evil day. The Bible prophesied it thousands of years ago. But this downward spiral doesn’t keep us from proclaiming what is right, just and holy.

We had better be careful what, and who, we let influence our minds and the minds of our children.

Comments are welcome, but please keep them civil and clean. Comments with crude, rude or offensive language will be removed.

Please Remember Me…

David.

A man after God’s own heart.

He loved God, yet he sinned.

Again, and again and even Again.

Some scholars believe the 38th Psalm was written after the death of Uriah. King David had sent him to the front lines of a battle so that he would be killed…all to hide the sin that he had committed with Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba.

Nathan, the prophet, confronted David about his sin by giving him a parable:

And the Lord sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor. The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds: But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.

And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.”

David was furious when he heard this story! He replies with the righteous anger of a king:

“As the Lord liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die… And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man.” 2 Samuel 12:1-7.

Guilty!

David has been found out. God had revealed it to the prophet and he could no longer hide his sin.

So what did he do? Argue with Nathan and insist he wasn’t “the man”?

Did he try to pin the blame on someone else?

Or maybe, he wanted to blame Bathsheba…if she hadn’t been bathing on that roof this never would have happened!

No, David didn’t do any of those things. He went to prayer.

“O Lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure… There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.”

There was no rest for David as long as there was a “breach” between him and his God!

But David knew where his forgiveness would come from, he knew if he would humble himself, admit his sin and ask for help, he would find a Savior.

Have you been there?

Have you been pronounced “GUILTY” and all in a moment’s time been brought to your knees?

We all have when we discover our sin.

[Tweet “Whether it’s a 1-time offense or under the conviction of our sin-born nature, we need a Savior!”]

“There is therefore nono condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1-3.

No condemnation!

No continual whispering in the ear from the father of lies!

No reminders from Almighty God, who has the power to give and take life!

There is only forgiveness. Complete forgiveness, never to be remembered against you again.

Sometimes there are consequences from our sin. The child born to David and Bathsheba died. But God forgave them because of their humility and prayer.

Don’t let the enemy convince you that your sin is too great. Nothing is too big for our God!

There is no need to be robbed of joy and peace when Jesus is waiting to forgive.

“Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.” Psalm 38:21.

Like David, pour out your heart to Him and ask Him to remember you.

Just Another Face in the Crowd…

She was normal.

As normal as anyone can be with a chronic illness.

It consumed her, this raging inferno that never stopped and the pain that accompanied it.

All she wanted was to be well. To not have to worry about the stares, the whispers, the finger-pointing.

She wanted to get up in the morning without it being the first thing on her mind. And she wanted to go to bed at night without having to worry about facing it the next day. Over and over again.

Twelve years.

Had it been that long? It seemed like forever. She heard there was a man that could take away this pain. He wasn’t a Doctor, he was a Teacher. How could a Teacher help me, she wondered?

There was no other plan. Nowhere else to turn. No more Doctors. No hope.

Following the swarm of people that were in the city that day, she fell in step when she heard that they had seen the Teacher up ahead. Faster they were going now, it was all she, in her weakened condition, could do to keep up.

But there were so many of them, she could never get to the front, she was too short to see over them, so many to go around and push through. She just had to get to this Teacher! Hadn’t she heard that He had the power to heal? Yes, He is the One that they talk about.

Maybe. Just maybe.

If she could just touch Him!

Desperation set in now, afraid of losing the opportunity, she dropped to her knees and began to crawl through the throng of people that had surrounded this Teacher. She was making progress, closer, closer, almost there.

Who touched Me?” She had been discovered! But she had also been healed! Everything was gone, no pain, no sickness, she had been completely restored to health!

“Peter…said, ‘Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?’”

“And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.” (Luke 8:45-46)

She could hide no longer and stepped out from the multitude, confessing that it was she who had touched this Healer.

“And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.” (Luke 8:45-48)

Go in peace? Go in peace?! Yes! She had peace. She had pressed through, persevered and touched the One who could not only heal her but also give her peace.

Have you been in the crowd? Have you wanted to push through to Jesus but it just seemed like too much work?

He might not notice you. He might not care. You might not get what you expected.

Jesus isn’t just available to a few; He is the Savior to the world.

It’s worth it. The answered prayers, the healing, whether physical, mental or spiritual, and the peace…all of it is there waiting.

I was just another face in the crowd. I listened to lies about my lack of self-worth for too long.

You too?

Push through that crowd today. Reach out and touch Him.
