12 Hours to Save Thumper was one of our real tear-jerkers! I even got a couple of phone calls, besides the emails and comments, checking on Thumper. True stories are always a winner, even the sad ones…

I believe I have received more mail on this post than any other so far! If God Forgives Me, Why Can’t I Forgive Myself? How far is the east from the west? How far does the Lord cast our sins when we are forgiven? It is not so hard to believe sometimes that God can forgive us, but it is very difficult for us to forgive ourselves. I have discovered that is one of the things the enemy tortures people with the most! And it is one of the all-time-high Google searches! This article deals with letting go of past wrongs, if God has forgiven you, it is forgotten!

My Three Sons seem to take over here at Hope in the Healing! “Hey, Guy! Somebody Call the Cops!” was definitely one of the busiest days on the blog! In this case there were only two at the time, number three had not yet arrived. No problem, number two could carry out this caper all by himself! Check it out if you haven’t read it yet…it’s a whole lot of fun!

Are You A Wounded Healer? This was another very popular post that generated alot of email! People that have gone through much suffering in their own life and yet God has turned it around and they can now use that experience to minister to others…they are Wounded Healers. They know just what to say and when to say it, or say nothing at all. They show up at the right time and know how to pray. Their touch and their presence brings peace and comfort.

Don’t Pass By Nikolai is actually one of MY favorites! This happened while we were living in the country of Estonia, in the Baltics. Such a gentle and kindly Russian man, you will enjoy reading the compassionate story of our friend Nikolai. It is a wonderful reminder of the importance of something as simple as a smile.

He Heals Me, He Heals Me Not. I was not expecting the outpouring of response from this post! Certainly many people could relate to wondering why God heals some and not others or even heals them at certain times in their lives but not others. But even more importantly was our response to it and God’s plan. This article was also my first feature for Internet Cafe Devotions.

I sure shattered my sweet and innocent image when this story broke! Then I’ll Huff, And I’ll Puff, And I’ll… Come on, what would you do??

This super popular post by my dear friend Randa Chance, just keeps popping up in the archives! When the Music Stops, is one of the most encouraging articles you will ever read anywhere! If you are going through ANYTHING, Randa will help you pull up your bootstraps and get back out there and keep going. She has been through enough to know and God keeps picking her up over and over again. She is an overcomer! BTW, her book, Of Cabbages and Kings, is absolutely a hoot! A great read, you will laugh, you will cry, it will move you…and it’s for sale on the right side of my homepage!!

Randa Chance is a writer, speaker and pastor's wife at the Sanctuary of San Antonio.

And we can’t leave out the post that generated me the most views EVER in a single day!! You might know it would come from the cutest couple EVER as well. Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend and A Groom’s Worst Nightmare was a winner for me but a nightmare for my eldest, Kyle. Read the story to see if it has a Happily EVER After…

Finally, the one that started it all! Faith Journey! I would have to say this is one of my favorites because it tells how the Lord helped me overcome my fears in the country of Latvia in the former Soviet Union. He was so faithful, to one who had never left United States soil and who was afraid of EVERYTHING, especially closed-in spaces! Oh, the fears He helped me face and defeat! I love this story that is funny, scary and full of surprises. I hope you will take the time to read it.

Day 19: A Story From My Childhood…

Sweet Jenni at www.storyofmylifetheblog.blogspot.com issued a fun challenge to bloggers to blog Every Single Day in May and she supplied the topics for all 31 days. Yep, I’m behind, but there are no rules, and no blog police come knocking if you miss, skip, or mess up. So, hey, I’m in!

Day 19, Sunday: I’m a little behind again so I have chosen Saturday’s topic:  Tell a story from your childhood. Dig deep and try to be descriptive about what you remember and how you felt.

Caution: This story is not for those with a weak stomach. You have been warned!

I simply loved to stay at my grandmother’s house when I was little. My sister and I would live over there if Mom would let us. Mamaw Cammie, to put it simply, spoiled us rotten. She wasn’t wealthy by any means. Her house included a separate “smoke house” which she used for storage and from my memory she did her ironing out there. She taught us girls to iron, practicing on our grandfather’s handkerchiefs. She always had a Coke bottle filled with water and a red rosette on the top with holes in it for sprinkling the clothes. Oh, the memories…

We played dress up! I have no idea where she got all of those neat dresses! But I believe she would have let us wear Cinderella’s ball gown if she could have gotten her hands on it.

We hosted the original Rachael Ray’s kitchen. No, really we did. We had our own line of Tupperware; we would set the table for tea, and prepare our gourmet meal and call our special guests to the table. Mamaw and Papaw never complained about the empty cups and saucers. They complimented the meal as if Julia Child herself had prepared it.

We loved to play outside. I could sit on the bank all day in the springtime. Mamaw had the longest row of peonies I had ever seen! To this day I cannot pass a peony bush without thinking of her. I must stop and touch it, take the beautiful, soft bloom in my hand and drink in the fragrant remembrance of long ago.

Every day was carefree and every night was something to look forward to…sleeping in the big bed with Mamaw Cammie! One special night when I was five and my sister Rhea was seven, we had played outside all day and really worn ourselves out. We always had our baths and Mamaw loved to comb out our long hair before we went to bed. My sister and I both had hair down to our waists when we were little. So up in the bed we went and Mamaw told us a story before we would fall asleep, dreaming sweet dreams of another day of play ahead of us…

I remember thinking I was sick in the middle of the night, but I must have been dreaming.  And then I faintly remember my little tummy hurting and coughing and feeling sick again. But I drifted back off to sleep for a second time. The next thing I know Rhea is screaming and pushing at me, she is hysterical and I am trying to wake up, not sure at all what is going on. Mamaw is hurrying around, the light has come on, the covers are being pulled back…oh no…I wasn’t dreaming…Rhea is still giving off this ear-piercing scream, “Maaamawww!!!”

And this time I am not dreaming, I really was sick in the middle of the night and she has every right to be upset. Because since I did not wake up and instead rolled over and went back to sleep, everything that “came up” went exactly where you are thinking it went…mostly in Rhea’s long and beautiful hair!

Needless to say the next few hours were spent washing two little girls’ hair, which was a much longer process in the middle sixties! I know for sure Mamaw Cammie didn’t have a blow dryer so we would have either taken turns underneath her big and bulky hair dryer or we went back to bed with a wet head.

It is a miracle that my big sister even speaks to me today after all the trauma my brothers and I put her through. This one was pretty awful but she does get even…and that my friends, is another story, for another day…

Day 17, (or 5) Friday: A favorite photo of yourself and why

Day 17, Friday: A favorite photo of yourself and why

Jenni’s Blogging Challenge sure has caused a lot of reminiscing the last few days! When I saw the topic for today I knew the one I wanted to go searching for. It’s always been a favorite of mine. It’s the last family shot before I was married and it was taken by The Sweetheart. He was a photography buff and even had a wedding photography business for several years after we were first married.

But there are so many more reasons that I love this particular portrait.

The Brady Bunch Effect. Yeah, we have it going on. We just “scream” the 70’s! Cowl necks, turtlenecks, long wing collars, and corduroys. I just loved that little gray vest and skirt in the picture, one of my favorites. Groovy, man.

Family. There is nothing like it. This was the end of years of living under the same roof, sharing meals at the same table. Fights, squabbles, and endless “He said, she said…” But that is what makes up a family. When my brothers were young they could have the best fights! But if someone else tries to pick on one of them they would come to each other’s defense in a minute.

I remember one time my sister and I were washing dishes together. Boy, were we made at each other for something. I have no idea what it was. We were probably 10 and 12 or 12 and 14 at the time. But we couldn’t make any noise because Mom and Dad were sitting in the family room. So we were having a “silent fight”! One of us grabbed a steak knife and tried to slice the other’s hand, it’s been so long now I don’t remember who did what. (When she reads this story she may regain her memory quickly!)

To retaliate, one of us tried to hold the other’s hand under hot water. Un-BEE-LEEVE-Able! Finally, we started giggling. We weren’t very vicious. Actually, I cannot remember too many physical battles between the two of us at all. But that one stands out today and always makes me LOL. Family.

Seasons. An old one was fading for me and a new one was just beginning. I was about to say, “I Do” to The Sweetheart and become a Mrs. Forever. Looking back I can’t believe how young I was. Of course you couldn’t have told me that then! My kids today have told me that at least 100 times. But it did work for us, we were happy, we did finally grow up, we stayed together, we loved each other and we loved God.

I didn’t leave my family, I gained another one. It’s amazing how close the two families have been over the years and for that I am thankful.

Parents. They have always been in the picture. No matter where I have been they have been there for me. Through thick and thin they have supported us, loved us and helped us however they could. They have adored our children and been a very vital part of their lives.

All of this from a portrait that I had to dig out of another storage box. It has weathered at least nine moves and this last one cost it a little bit. But that is what it is all about. Weathering the storms and staying together.

Families do that for each other. They endure, they persevere, they persist, and stick it out, and knowing in the end each will be there for the other.
